managerial and professional occupations that have traditionally been linked with the archetypal notion of career as involving generally planned upward moves. Variants of mentoring that go beyond its traditional form include lateral or peer mentoring, where there is no hierarchical difference between the two parties, and reverse mentoring, where it is the junior member who assumes the role of mentor. Mentoring has been documented in most parts of the globe, demonstrating beneficial relationships with career outcomes in most cases.
